Publishers and CAL
CAL’s core services to publishers are:
- collecting and distributing copyright fees for educational and government use of works: CAL has been appointed by the government to manage the ‘statutory licences’ in the Copyright Act that allow educational institutions and governments to use written works and images without permission, provided they make fair payment
- as the artists’ agent, licensing works to corporations and others: the agency arrangement is non-exclusive and publishers remain free to license their works themselves
CAL’s other services include:
- information and seminars
- e-alerts
- funding for projects and skills development through CAL’s Cultural Fund
- advocacy
CAL’s members include publishers of books, journals and newspapers.
