Press clipping agencies
CAL's suite of licences can assist businesses providing press clipping services in meeting their copyright obligations with a minimum of fuss.
Many organisations employ a press clipping service to monitor the media. An effective press clipping service is considered an essential element in any successful media and communications strategy.
Because newspaper articles are copyright works, CAL offers press clipping licences so that organisations can have access to the works they need while the copyright owner receives fair compensation.
CAL licences 'short-cut' the process of obtaining permission for copying of works directly from copyright owners. With a CAL licence your press clipping agency is granted permission to copy from any of the works represented by CAL. Clips can then be copied and distributed to your clients while ensuring copyright compliance.
CAL has three types of licence available:
- the Photocopying Licence allows press clipping agencies to photocopy and distribute clips;
- the Scan to Fax Licence allows articles to be scanned and distributed (via hardcopy or fax) to clients; and
- the Copying and Communication Licence allows press-clipping agencies to both electronically deliver content of participating rightsholders and to scan articles from paper edition and deliver them to clients.

CAL also offers Downstream Licences that allow the clients of press clipping services to internally distribute and store their press clippings by email or intranet.
