2. CAL's mission
The core function of CAL is to license users of copyright material to make reproductions and communications of copyright works under appropriate provisions of the Copyright Act 1968, and to distribute money collected fairly and equitably to copyright owners and creators. To achieve this end, CAL will:
- Provide strong and flexible copyright management services;
- Improve current business and operations to better serve creators, owners and users of copyright resources;
- Develop and implement innovative new approaches and systems for current business and operations;
- Expand the photocopying licence program into new markets;
- Develop strategic alliances with content delivery companies and institutions;
- Create new markets for copyright works;
- Research, develop and realise new digital market opportunities for CAL including copyright clearance, content delivery and CAL information services;
- Promote and positively influence copyright law reform, in conjunction with other industry bodies such as the Australian Publishers Association and the Australian Society of Authors, to help ensure access to works while protecting the interests of copyright owners;
- Protect and enforce the rights of copyright owners;
- Provide high quality service to members;
- Promote and advocate the value and benefits of copyright; and
- Represent and provide copyright services on behalf of similar collecting societies elsewhere in the world.
